A short history of how I into web design
My interest in design started in 2009, when I was in junior high school and began modifying templates on Blogspot. Blogspot 1 was very popular at the time, and I created a blog on the platform, experimenting with third-party widgets that contained HTML and CSS markup.
In 2011, I discovered Tumblr2, a new blogging platform. Initially, I posted and reblogged content from other users, but then I found out that people were creating “themes” for public use on Tumblr. I began customizing these themes and delving deeper into HTML and CSS. Eventually, I invested time in creating a simple skeleton Tumblr theme from scratch for personal use.
By 2012, I had created a dedicated Tumblr blog called faluvthathemes, where I contributed to the theme-making community by reblogging tutorials and resources from fellow creators. Later, I rebranded the blog to fukuo, a username I now use across my social media as an internet alias until now.
The name Fukuo comes from Fukuoka, Japan’s 6th largest city. I chose this username because it is short and easy to remember. The blog has been my learning source for the past decade, gaining a huge following due to its popularity. Over 10,000+ people across the platform have used my publicly released themes.
This journey led me to web development jobs, shaping my coding and design knowledge to this day.
- Blogspot, also known as Blogger, is a free blog-publishing service that allows users to create and manage blogs. It was launched by Pyra Labs, which was later acquired by Google in 2003 ↩︎
- Tumblr is a microblogging and social networking platform where users can post multimedia content and follow other users’ blogs. It was launched in 2007 and became popular for its ease of use and customization options, especially through themes and HTML/CSS editing which later acquired by Automattic in 2019 ↩︎
My interests
Biking
Not professionally for now, but biking is one of the sports I diligently attempt to do for fun, as well as to maintain my breathing control and strength.
Design
I love designing and creating something ‘beautiful’ and pleasing to the eyes. Crafting anything design-related is my passion. It can be a digital product interface, a poster, or simply an illustration related to typography.
Art
I used to dream of pursuing a job in art-related fields, creating art for people to appreciate. The abstract nature of art and its purpose for those who wonder is fascinating.
